English and American Differences

-The English and American


culture are similar, but with important differences.

The typical English breakfast, or Full English Breakfast, contains eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, toast and a cup of tea. The British also make a snack with tea and cakes in the afternoon called "Tea Time". An American breakfast contains eggs and bacon, pancakes and coffee. Coffee is more important than tea in the United States.

- The English settled i first United States, but for centuries, America has the influence of other immigrant groups. The British have much immigration of colonies like India, Pakistan, and the Caribbean Islands from the years 50.



-The more importants sports in England are: football, golf, cricket, squash and tennis. While in America prefer: American football, rugby, basketball, baseball, and hockey.

- The English are somewhat more polite and less expressive than Americans, and Americans the reputation of being noisy.


And here is some difference between English and American culture.

Statue of Liberty



The jurist and political Frenchman, Eduardo Laboulaye, had the idea that Fance offered a present to The United States as an obsequiousness for the commemoration of the centenary of the American independence in 1886, as a souvenir of the long friendship between both countries and to guarantee the French-American alliance.It is one of the most famous monuments in New York, the United States and around the world. It is located on the Liberty Island in the South of the island of Manhattan, at the mouth of the Hudson River and near Ellis Island. The 15th october in 1924, the statue was declared a national monument of the United States and the 15th October in 1965 added Ellis Island. Since 1984 is considered world heritage by Unesco. The statue of liberty, as well as being an important monument in the city of New York, became a symbol in United States and represents, on a more general level, the freedom and emancipation.





Harvard University

This University was founded in 1636, initially called "New College" or "The College at New Towne" . The instituion was renamed Harvard College the 13th March in 1639. It was named after John Harvad , a young English clergyman from London who gave to the institution his library of 400 books and 779 pounds sterling, which was half of his estate. In 1780 the institution was renamed again, the called it Harvard University. Massachusetts Hall and Harvard Hall are the oldest buildings in the campus of Harvard. During 40 years the president of Harvard Charles William Eliot transformed the model who existed in Harvard University turnings it into a center of modern investigation; these reforms included elective courses, small classes, and the entry into force of the examination. In 2010, Harvard has employs about 2,100 faculty to teach, approximately 6,700 undergraduates and 14,500 graduate and professional students. Eight presidents of United States and 75 Nobel Laureates have been graduates here.

University of Cambridge



The University of Cambridge is a public research university located in Cambridge, United Kingdom. It is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world (after the University of Oxford), and the seventh-oldest globally.

The university grew out of an association of scholars in the city of Cambridge that was formed in 1209.


History

Cambridge is a member of the Coimbra Group, the G5, the International Alliance of Research Universities, the League of European Research Universities and the Russell Group of research-led British universities. It forms part of the 'Golden Triangle' of British universities.

Golden Gate (San Francisco)


The Golden Gate is the North American strait connecting San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. That Construction began on January 5, 1933. The project cost more than $ 35 million. The chief engineer of the project was Joseph Strauss. The bridge was completed in April 1937 and was opened to pedestrian traffic on May 27 at 6:00 am.

Lincoln Park).

University of Oxford


The University of Oxford is a university located in Oxford, United Kingdom. It is the second-oldest university in the world and the oldest in the English-speaking world.
Oxford was created in 1096. The university grew rapidly from 1167 when henry II banned the students didn´t go to the university of Paris.
if you want to enter at oxford university you must have good marks.
The main rival of Oxford University is the University of Cambridge, founded soon after. Popularly, it is considered superior to Cambridge on scientific, while Oxford is considered superior in the humanities.

There are thirty-eight colleges of the University of Oxford. In the university there are president, rector, master, dean and students.

United Kingdom : Culture and Customs-Part2

  • May Day : It the first day of the month of May. Traditional English May Day celebrations include Morris dancing, crowning a May Queen, and dancing around a Maypole.
-Morris Dancing: It is a traditional English form of folkdancing.
-May Queen: They decorate their houses, people dance in many festivals, and they choose a May Queen.
-Maypole: People dance around a pole in celebration of the end of winter.

  • Tea time: The tipical tea time is at five o'clock in the evening. It's a ritual, and most people in the UK drink a tea with cookies every day.
